BAND DEMONSTRATION.
Everything is going smoothly in connection with the bands' demonstration on Saturday next, and the efforts of the bands should add considerably to the Sick and W otmded Soldiers' Fund. Messrs Robert Francis, Ltd., Webley, Sons, and Gofton, aiid The Bristol Piano; Company have each given a substantial, gift, and it is intended to sell them by auction .from the platform in Cathedral Square on Saturday evening. Messrs J. and W. Jamieson, Ltd., of Colombo Street, have kindly consented to erect the platform at the back of -Godley Statue,' finding the tinilier and labour freeof cost. From this platform musical and other items ; are to be given to a late hour on Saturday evening. The lighting is being supplied by the City' Council, A number of bands outside Christcliurch have been asked to take part, and with anything, like a good muster, and given fine weather; there should be* about 250 players in the massed march.
Under the late Act it is now necessary for each collector to. carry a certificate signed by the Mayor authorising! the holder to collect. The forms arenow in the hands of - the secretary, and those who have signified , their intention of taking collecting' boxes are asked: to attend at the Chamber of Commerce! Rooms, Cathedral Square, not later than 9.30 a.m. on Saturday morning, to re-' ceive certificates. Flags are also to be sold, and should have a ready sale.
