LICENSING COMMITTEE.
LYTTELTON. Tlio quarterly meeting of the Lyttelton Licensing "Committee was held at Lvtt.elt.ori to-day, there being present: Mr 11. W. Bishop (chairman) and Messrs J. Garrard, O. Bradley, S. W. Mitchell, J. Richardson, and C. Ferrier. An application from Robert Kelleher (British Hotel, Lyttelton) for a* transfer to James Cornelius Harnett (Mr Hunt) was granted. An application from Edmund Hill (Mr Cassidy) in respect to the Empire Hotel, Lyttelton, which is just completing, was granted. An application from Peter Brown Carmichael (Mr Cassidy), in respect to the Royal Hotel, Lyttelton, was ordered to stand in abeyance for three months, as the money was being borrowed for the erection of new buildings. In connection with the British Hotel the chairman stated that the applicant would have to be more careful in future, as he had already appeared before the court on charges of breaches of the Licensing Act. A transfer was granted from .lames Horuer to Daniel Stevens in connection with the Marine Hotel,* Sumner.
In connection with the application of Joseph Potascagk, of the Wheat Sheaf Hotel, Teddington, to Hunter Aitken, the committee refffsed to transfer the license to Aitken, but granted hiin a permit for one month only.
