QUEEN OF THE HILLS.
A meeting, representing the various counties constituting the area set apart for the Queen of the Hills, was held at Amberley yesterday. There were present: Messrs Hale and McLean (Kowai County), Ensor and Wilson (Ashley), Hampton and Davidson (Amuri), Meikle (Cheviot), and Lewton (Amberley Town Board). Mr MeLean was elected to the chair. Mr E. 8.. Webb gave a brief resume of the objects of the movement, and stated what was being carried out in other centres. . After a discussion concerning the beßt means of obtaining the amounts _appqrtioned to the various- counties, it was resolved to hold a Queen Carnival. • On the motion of Mr Wilson, it was unanimously resolved that each county run a Queen of its own, the leading Queen at a certain date to be deemed the Queen of the Hills, and the other candidates to act as maids of honour;, all the proceeds from each county to be credited to that county, and the total to be credited to the Queen of the Hills. Mr Evans, chairman of the Waipara County Council, sent a telegram apologising for the non-attendance of delegates, and stating that they would fall' in with the decisions of the meeting. A recommendation was made to the Canterbury executive that the carnival should be held early in April. Mr Boddington was elected treasurer, and Mr V. Rhodes general secretary.
