About 30 of the men were having a dip under somewhat • hot fire from some snipers. As it was getting beyOnd enjoyment, several of the men went ashore and made for cover. Suddenly one of the men rushed; back into the water, and/ as it was certain then that someone had been hit, Penlington raced along the beach for. over 100 yds to the rescue of the wounded man. The first Kould-be rescuer reached the man, but was unable to keep; him afloat. Penlington turned on his back and brought him ashore in good style, under a direct, rain of bullets.
