THE DISTRICT MATCHES.
THIRD ROUND FINISHED. I Unpleasant weather conditions prevailed again this afternoon for the resumption of the third round of matches in the Canterbury Cricket Association's competitions. A strong westerly wind was blowing when play opened. Soon the wind changed to the south, and a smart shower of rain fell. After 3 o'clock, however, the weather improved considerably, and ai the Finish of the day's play it was excellent. Linwood scored its third win, beating St. Albans by a narrow margin. Sydenham drew with Riccarton. West Chrislchureh beat East Christchurch on the first innings. LINWOOD V. ST. ALBANS. The leading team, Linwood, met St. Albans at Hagley Park. At the end of last Saturday's play Linwood, which batted first, had 133 on for eight wickets. Carlton, who had taken six of the wickets, was absent this afternoon, and the tail-enders carried the score to 191 before the last wicekt fell. St. Albans had only nine men to bat when it started its first innings. The first wicket fell before a run was scored. Then Bishop and T. W. Reese put on 59 runs, and later Gordon and Brunton were associated in a very useful partnership. The eighth wicket fell when 17 runs were needed for victory. Riccarton continued its innings against Sydenham, the not out pair, Whitta and Caygill, making a great stand. The partnership yielded 198 runs, Caygill losing his wicket at 87, and Whitta finishing up with 145 to his credit. Riccarton declared with five wickets down for 289. Sydenham lost its wickets quickly, and the last pair was in at ten to six. However, they made a good stand, and lasted long enough to make the game a draw. RICCARTON. First Innings. C. li. SCHOOL MATCHES.
At Sydenham Park, Addington made 23 (Duff 6) and Waltham 62 (Elvy 31). For Addington Mr Meekan took five wickets, and Duff four, including the "hat trick." For Waltham, Poulton took eight wickets and Elvy two.' Woolston, batting first against Sydenham, made 94 (M. Pengelly 56 not out, J. Cadenhead 27). Sydenham replied with 71 (Nilson 28, Sheriffs 12). N. Pengelly bowled best for Woolston, and King and Choat for Sydenham. Woolston won by 23 runs.
