BRITISH NEARER BAGHDAD. SPLENDID SPIRIT AFTER SEVERE LOSSES. The High Commissioner reports: LONDON, Nov. 26, 11.55 p.m.) A Mesopotamia telegram from General Nixon, dated November 25, reports that General Townshcnd's troops are in possession of thfc battlefield, while the Turks arc reported to be retiring on Dialah, about 10 miles above Ctesiphon, and the same distance from Baghdad. General Townshend engaged in attending to the wounded and prisoners. It now appears that 1300 prisoners were taken. Our wounded number about 2500, and the killed have not yet been reported. General Nixon speaks in terms of high praise of the excellent handling of the troops by General To\Vnshend and the splendid spirit shown after severe losses and hardships from want of water and food.
