The Merthyr Tydvil by-election resulted:— Stanton 10,286 Winstone .. .. 6,080 [A cable message published yesterday stated: Labour will contest the Merthyr Tydvil seat. Mr Stanton has resigned the miners' leadership, disapproving of the Independent Labour Party's views. Mr Stanton declared that, though he was a Socialist, he was a Britisher first. He has decided to oppose Mr Winstone, the Independent Party's selected candidate.]
