FRENCH SHIP SHELLED.
AN UNFORTUNATE ERROR.
PARIS, November 26.
An official statement says a German submarine on November 24 fired 30 shots at the steamer Tafna in the Eastern Mediterranean. Thf ship escaped by steaming at ful] speed, and reached Marseilles. Un- ! fortunately some of the boats, despite the master's orders, were put out, and were immediately swamped. [The Tafna is a steamer of 1444 tons gross register, owned by the Compagnie de Navigation Mixte, of Marseilles.] LOSS OF H.M.S. TARA. SURVIVORS ALL WELL. November 25. It is officially stated that the survivors of the Tara, including the captain, has been seen at Elaziat, west of the Gulf of Solum. They are all well. [The Tara, a merchant steamer commissioned as a naval auxiliary cruiser, and employed on patrol duty in the Eastern Mediterranean, was surik by a German submarine on November 5. Thirty-four of her crew were reported missing. The Gulf of Solum is about 260 miles west of Alexandria.] I
