C Fantham (Westland), and B. O'Neill (Wellington). The annual report stated that although swimmers in large numbers had enlisted in the Expeditionary Forces, those remaining had endeavoured to maintain the sport. The membership of the association remained the same as last season, and while it was not expected to improve during the coming season, it hoped that the total of the clubs affiliated would not be reduced. After reviewing the work of the season the report stated that the association was in a sound financial position, but as the Government grant for the coming season had been greatly re* ducedj strict economy would need to be exercised.; .During the rules had been thoroughly revised, and had met with tta general approval of the centres., In moving the adoptiori of the report antl balancesheet, the chairman said the roll of honour had not yet been completed, as many of the centres had not yet sent in their lists. The report and balance-sheet were adopted The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr H. F. Bowl|er; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr P. N. Bundle; hon. auditor, Mr R. 0. Duncan. Sub-committees were set up as follow : Affiliation of Clubs CommitteeMessrs Bryant, Knudson, and the secretary. Certificates' Committee The president and secretary. Centres' Reports' Committeee— Messrs Williams and Anderson. Reinstatement Committee—Messrs Buchanan, Knudson, and Rundle. Mr Anderson moved:—"That a committee consisting of the president, and Messrs B. O'Neill,' H. S. Williams, and the mover be set up to consider and report to next council meeting upon the advisability of the swimmers combining in New Zealand for the purpose of performing some patriotic work " The mover said while most swimmers were doing some patriotic work, nothing was being done by them as a body. There were a great number of swimmers at the front, and he thought they would appreciate it if they knew the swimmers as a body were doing patriotic work. Mr Williams said such a scheme was worthy of consideration. He thought if the matter was taken up they would get the support of the swimmers. The motion was carried.
Mr Bryant moved: "That the council's previous motion in regard to the Wanganui bridge to bridge race be rescinded, and that the race ."be reswum or declared no race at the option of the Wanganui Centre." The motion was carried.
A letter from the Wanganui Centre, asking that in view of swimmers having gone to the war, the affiliation fees be reduced, was referred to the Centre Reports Committee. The Canterbury Centre wrote complaining that the Hawke's Bay Centre and the Wellington Club had not paid their trophy orders to Canterbury swimmers who had won prizes. Mr Williams moved: —"That a subcommittee consisting of the president, and secretary, and Messrs Stokes, Knudson, and O'Neill be set up to consider the matter and endeavour to arrange a settlement." This was carried.
