FARMERS' INCOMES.
THE OBSCURE RETURN. Pres* Association. WELLINGTON, November 25. Some complaints have been heard lately in various parts of New Zealand from farmers who are being required to furnish returns of their income in connection with the new income tax. The new law makes i all income from land liable to taxation, and places all persons in re-i ceipt of income on the same footing. The profits derived from the use of land by the owner or any other per :son from grain, sheep, cattle, or any live stock, from extraction, removal* sale, or treatment of minerals, flax, ■.in. timber, rents, royalties, fines, pVeoiiums, or any other revenue, including goodwill of any. business, are now assessable. The profits piade by dealing in- live stock, etc., must also be returned as ihlcbme. These points are inade»clear in, the statement issued : to-night by the 1 Prime Minister, dealing; seriatim with the items in the form of return ; asked for.
