PIGEON FLYING.
The Cliristcliurch Homing Pigeon Society flew off a race from Culver den on October .16. Fifty-four birds were sent, divided ■amongst 16 owners.. The birds were liber rated by the stationmaster at 12.26 p»m. iri fine weather, with a strong north-east wind blowing, which enabled them to put up fast times. The winner, turned out to be Mr F. Smith's Lady Sprite, which traversed the distance of 55 miles 1340 yds airline in lhr 9min;'lssec. The following is the velocity recorded by each owner's bird:— Yds. per mill, F.
