LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The following is the Dominion Meteorologist 's report on the werftlier conditions:—Wind: The indications are for variable ami strong breezes, but westerly, strong to gale, prevailing. The weather is likely to be cloudy and unsettled, and raiu is probable. The barometer shows a rising tendency, but a further fall may be expected. The Veterans' Cricket Club open their season to-morrow with a club match on Hagley I'ark at 2 p.m. Athletes' Day next Saturday, in aid of the the Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Funds is calling forth much enthusiasm, particularly among young women. The. only shortage is for women and girls willing to help with the Saturday morning work, and the secretary (Mr Hornibrook) will be pleased to hear from any women who can render service from 8 a.m. to noon, or any portion of that time. Gifts and presents of various kinds for auction and for street sale continue to pour iu, and the 400 girls who are acting as collectors and street - sellers will be very well equipped with saleable articles. The lion, secretary would be pleased to hear from motor car owners who are willing to help bv lending cars for the afternoon or portion of the morning.
