THE MENZIES CASE.
CHARGES OF THEFT. Press Association. DUNEDIN, September 29. The police proceeded to-day with two of the charges preferred against Robert Sproule Menzies, late manager of the insurance department of Neill and Go. The first charges were of stealing £62 odd, and of stealing £77 odd. Both of these charges indicted accused of theft from Ijis employers. Mr Hay, for the defendant, while stating that he was instructed to plead guilty where he reasonably could, pointed out that the evidence showed that the moneys belonged to other insurance companies, for which Neill and Go. were agents, and that the charge of theft from an employer was much more serious, involving 14 years' imprisonment. The Magistrate "allowed the matter of pleading to stand over until he considered on what charge the accused should be committed. The cases are proceeding.
