BOWLING.

THE LYTTELTON CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The first annual meeting of the Lyttelton Bowling Club was held in the Excelsior Hall last night, Mr J. T. Norton presiding over a fair attendance. The chairman, in reviewing the work of the year, said that matters had progressed as far as'possible with the laying out of the green. The walling had been completed, but the grass was not growing as well as might be expected, owing to the absence of rain. The club was already affiliated with the Christchurch Centre of the New Zealand Bowling Council, and members had already received recognition in other towns. Up to the present 68 members had paid their first subscription of one guinea, but outside of this no other revenue had been received. The expenditure had so far been £4lB 15/8, the principal item being £328 6/11 for laying down the green, erection of fences, and walls. The total indebtedness of the club was £347' 7/3. A few members had guaranteed the club's overdraft at the bank, bivt it was thought advisable that members should have the opportunity of taking up debentures. So far as the future of the club was concerned, he was quite optimistic. In reply to Mr Garrard, the chairman stated that the estimated expenditure, including the erection of the pavilion, \#s about £450. The annual revenue was estimated at £l6O, and it was hoped to have a surplus of £6O per annum. The report was adopted. Mr W. T. Foster moved, and Mr F. G. Norton seconded, that the committee be empowered to issue £1 debentures, bearing interest at 5 per cent, up to £SOO, in order to reduce the overdraft.

Mr Garrard said it was questionable whether the green could be run on the amount mentioned. He "thought there would be no difficulty' in bringing the membership up to 100. Several members donated sums towards the erection of the pavilion. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr J. T. Norton; vice-presi-dents, Messrs W. Brown, G. C. Smith, and'C. H. Agar; secretary, Mr E. H. Henderson; assistant secretary, Mr G. A. Smith; treasurer, Mr W. Brown; general committee, Messrs J. T. Norton, W. Brown, G. C. Smith, D. Comer, C. H. Agar, E. H. Henderson, W. A. Brown, H. H. Barnard, W. C. G. Taylor, W. Harkess, and J. Young; delegate to Canterbury Centre, Mr G. C. Smith; auditor, Mr J. E. Wilson. Delegates were appointed to visit several clubs on Saturday next, their different opening days. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr J. T. Norton for the use of his hall, and also to the committee.
