The High Commissioner's market report 'dated London, September 4, is as follows: —Note: Quotations unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot. Muttoii.—There has .been no material .-change in the market during the week. .New Zealand is not quoted. There is very little at the market, and this is selling at Canterbury per lb, North Island '7jd. A good demand continues for "ewes at s?d. Lamb. —The ' chief feature in the market is the demand for light-weight Canterbury twos B£d» heavy-weight fours 7{jd, second- ' class quality light-weight Bd, other than Canterbury 8 1/16 d for best quality lightweight. Ordinary quality lightrweight is as high as 7 15-16 d. Beef.—New Zealand is not quoted. There • 1s a large supply of chilled, selling at, . hinds 7gd, fores Gjjd. Butter.—The market is firm,'and a good demand * continues for high grade. .In Denmark production has - been reduced to below normal, and this, together with the demand from Germany and elsewhere, and the shortage of best quality, makes " prices very high. Danish, per cwt 168/-, 170/-; Siberian is firm on the market, and ' there is a good demand at 134/- and 138/-. Irish creamery is steady at from 152/- to 150/-.

Cheese.-—The market is advancing, with fair business doing. There has been a much better demand for colonial during ' this week, jat higher prices. Canadian per ' cwt 74/- to 76/-. English cheddar has a - steady market, with a moderate demand at 94/-. New Zealand is in good demand at 74/- to 75/-, and up to 76/-.. United States

68/- to 72/- good fine grades 62/- to J36/The estimated Canadian and United States cheese stocks at London, Liverpool, and Bristol on September 1 were 336,000 boxes, as against 192,000 at the same time last year. New .Zealand and Australian stocks at London and Bristol on the same date were 7750 crates, as against 3600 at the same time last year. Hemp.—The market is slightly firmer, owing to the rise on the Manila exchange. New Zealand prices are steady, but buyers are not anxious to operate. New Zealand good fair grade, per ton, £32; fair, _£3o; for forward shipment prices are nominally about the same; Manila, new graded, fair £3B 10/-. The output from Manila for the week was 20,000 bales. Hops.—The market is a shade weaker on account of the fine weather. Californian reports are excellent. Wheat.—The market is very quiet and Irregular, and difficult to follow. Buyers arc holding back on account of good crop reports from Canada and America. Euglish wheat is no wbcing offered in the market in fair quantity. English, from 40/- to 45/-, according'to quality; Canadian, Manitoba No 2 Old crop, on passage, 52/6; new crop, September to October shipment, 44/6; October to November, 43/6; American new crop, August to September, 45/-.
