LATE PERSONALS.
Messrs C. .1. Cooper,, 11. P. Hopkins, and J. F. Grierson were appointed last evening to represent, the insurance companies 'on ..the Woolston Fire Board. The. new' national officers elected by the Locomotive Engine-drivers' Association, at its annaul meeting recently held, are as fok low: —President, Mr F. H. son: vice-president, Mr A. Lees; general secretary, Mr W. McArloy (re-elected). A vote of thanks Avas accorded the re-tiring-president (Mr Kennedy) for his services during the year. Mr AW McArley, general secretary of the New Zealand Locomotive Enginedrivers' Association, has returned to Cliristehurc.il from Taumarunui, where he lias been representing his association at the enquiry into the collision that recently occurred on the Main Triinlc line. Mr McArley states that it is acoincidence that the driver of the second train in the collision was also driver of the second engine at the accident a week later, when, owing to a; wash-out the permanent way slipped, carrying with it the two engines, which toppled on to their sides. Mr McArley is of Opinion that, had the train been travelling at a rapid rate, a very serious loss of life must have resulted.
