LIVERPOOL FUND.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

ELEVEN MONTHS' WORK.

A-meeting of the Liverpool Fund Committee was held in the Council Chambers this morning, Mr H. Holland, Mayor, presiding. A large number of members were present. A motion of sympathy with those who had lost relatives in the service of their country was carried in silence. The Mayor mentioned the fact that almost 11 months had elapsed since the memorable meeting when the Lady Liverpool Committee had been formed. Since that time a splendid amount of work had been accomplished by the members, who had been the means of supplying the soldiers with just those comforts and necessities which made all the difference to them in their work. He had travelled round a good deal since then, and in "no place he had Visited had he encountered a committee that had worked in a more consistent, effective, and harmonious

manner. During the 11 months that had practically elapsed, the committee had spent approximately £3OOO. He understood that only a small sum remained, which would require careful husbanding. He congratulated Mrs Stedman, who was present, on the honour achieved by her son, who had had a Distinguished Service Order conferred upon him. OFFICER'S REPORT.

The president, Mrs Holland, reported that since the last meeting the work of the fund had been pushed vigorously forward. ' v The treasurer's report showed:— Receipts'from; August. 8, 1914, to July 3,1915, amounting to £2814 16/11, and expenditure totalling £1965 15/6, leaving a credit of £849 1/5, £6OO of which is on deposit at call with the Christchurch" City Council. Mr Gilby stated"that the systematic and businesslike way in which the depot statements were rendered (the work of Mrs Neville) greatly simplified his work as treasurer. MISCELLANEOUS.

Mrs Holland stated that the gramophones sent on the last troopships had been paid for by Lady Liverpool out of the general fund. The economy with which the committee had been enabled to run the depot was largely due to Mr and Mrs

, Walter Hill. Mr Hill had given them the rooms free of cost, and had even i paid the gas bill. Mrs Hill had been of enormous help in many ways, and J the use of her motor car alone had ] probably saved the committee a ' large taxi bill.

In reply to a remark by the Mayor to the effect that Mr Hill might possibly not have anticipated that the rooms would be required for such a lengthy period, and might need them, Mrs Hill stated that they would be at the disposal of the committee just as long as they were wanted. A he&rty .vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Hill was carried.bv acclamav tibri; ' THE TRENTHAM CAMP. A letter was read from the Wellington Patriotic Committee, regarding money required by the Trentham Camp Committee. It was proposed to ask the larger centres to make' a • contribution of £SO towards the expenses of the camp, which in the past had practically, been borne by the Wellington committee. Christchurch had already contributed £25, and a further sum of £25 was asked for, to make up the £SO. This request has already been acceded to. Messrs Luttrell Bros, offered to take concert parties about to various centres, at their own expense, to raise money for camp committee expenses, and it was resolved to ask them to send the money to the Lady • Liverpool Committee direct, who could then forward it to Wellington for the camp equipment fund. Mrs W. D. Stewart moved that a

; sum of £25 be voted for the supply I of comforts for the sick soldiers at j Trentham. This was seconded by ! Mrs Siriims and carried.

EQUIPPING HOSPITAL BEDS. A letter from the Military Hospi-

tal Guild, Wellington, was read, asking if Canterbury would equip one I bed, "and giving particulars of articles required. Miss Thurston reported that the cost of each bed Would be about £3, and said further that the. hospital staff would be pleased to equip ten beds. *The following also offered to quip one bed J apiece:— -Mtk Holland, Mrs Geo. Rhodes, Mrs Wilding, Mrs Mickle, Mrs Nicholls, Mrs Stedman, Mrs W. D. Stewart, Mrs Walter Hill, Mrs Herbert Hill, and the Sumner Liver- \ pool workers. A number of names were added to the committee, including the Mayoresses of New Brighton, Rangiora, and Sumner. A DEPOT COMMITTEE. The various committees set up at the beginning of the war, such as sock committees, cholera belt committees, etc., were dissolved, and a depot committee was appointed as follows: —Mesdames Neville, Nicholls, Way, Chilton, Rawnsley, Walter Hill, Ferguson, Sims, Misses Orbell, Meares, and Haywood. A number of other ladies present offered assistance when required. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Miss Thurston and the hospital staff for their generous offer to equip ten beds in connection with the Military Hospital Guild, Wellington.
