A CARELESS REGISTRAR.

FINE OF £IOO. Press Association. AUCKLAND, July 5. At the Police Court to-day George Bond, ex-Registrar of Electors at Hamilton, was charged with having neglected to pay £22 17/- into the public account, to which the money was payable. It appeared that the defendant had allowed small sums of money collected for the sale of rolls, etc., to be mixed up with his business, which was a partnership. The sum of £22 17/- has since been paid by defendant, and there was no suggestion of dishonesty or a deliberate breach of the regulation. Mr Cuttcn, S.M., said he was glad to be assured that there was no element of dishonesty but the Act was absolutely rigid and he had no option but to fine the defendant £IOO.
