The local agents of the New Zealand., Shipping Company are advised that the /'.Tonga-' riro, from St. John, Canada, now discharging at Melbourne, leaves on Wednesday for Sydney and New Zealand ports. The Himitangi will Arrive from Timaru on Thursday, and after -loading produce will leave for Wellington the same night. It is rumoured that tho ;s.s.' Burumbeet, of the Huddart-Parker Line, has been purchased by Japanese owners, and will leave for Japan almost immediately. The Burrumbeet has hitherto been engaged exclusively in coal and' cargo carrying on the Australian coast.
The Union Steam Ship Company advises that the Moorakl arrived at Wellington this morning from Sydney, and loaves at 4 a.m. to-morrow for Lyttelton. Mr H'. F. Fergusoiiv late of the freight department of the Union Steam Ship Company, is joining the Tarawera as assistant pxirser. As there is audi a quantity of southern cargo offering for Australia, it has been decided to dispatch the Union Company's MhUukti from Lyttelton for Sydney direct next week. The vessel is due at Wellington from the New South Wales port on Tuesday, Juno 15, and will proceed to Lyttelton the same day, leaving for Sydney on Thursday, June 17. The Maitai, which is expected to arrive* at Wellington from San Francisco, via way ports, on June 18, will leave for Sydney direct in place of the Manuka. The new auxiliary schooner Strathcona, which was recently built at Auckland to the order of the Pacific Cable Board, sailed early on Friday afternoon for Suva arid Fanning Island, The vessel i* fitted with a Holimla engine, burning crude oil, and developed, a speed of about nine knots on her trial. The schooner is under the command of Captain W. KohhiMon, of Auckland.
