The management of The Bristol Piano Company has given; the- Bed Cross Society the use of The Bristol Company's old premises in Cathedral Square as a receiving depot, free of charge. Donations of all kinds, for the benefit of the Bed Cross.work will be received at this depot, which will be in charge of Mr W. T. Thompson.

A ballot for the election of officers and committee of the Christchurch Tramways Employees' Union is proceeding. The report of the scrutineers; will.'be presented to the, union next Tuesday, when remits for ; the annual" conferences' 'of-' the\ Social-Democratic Party and the. United Federation of Labour will also be considered by the union.

The directors of Everybody's Picture Theatre have offered to give the gross taking;-! of their theatre" between the hours of noon and 6 p.m. for four consecutive Tuesdays to the] Patriotic Fund. The company will provide lighting and air other incidental running ex-' penses free. On behalf of the citizens, the' Mayor has accepted this generous offer with thanks. .

A very impressive memorial service in connection with the loss of Mr J. C. Macky and his wife on the Lusitania was held in the Town Hall, Auckland, to-day. Business places were closed for two hours, and the staffs were represented. About 3000 were present, and speeches were delivered by Messrs Gunson (Mayor), Parr (ox-Mayor), and the Rev. Walker. The city organist played the "Dead March" from "Saul."— Press Association.

A young man named A. Watson, residing at New Brighton, and employed as a maehiuist by Mr W. H. Winsor, Somerfield Street, Spreydon, was admitted to the hospital at 10.15 a.m. today, suffering from severo injuries to his lingers, caused by being caught in a planing machine.
