THE WORK INCREASING. DECREASED DEATH RATE. The medical superintnedent of the Ohristchurch Hospital (Dr F. L. Scott) in bis annual report to the board to-day fcaid: —"I would call your attention to the increased work in the hospital during the year, as is shown by the.statistics included in this "report. Although ihe patients from Ward 1 were removed to the Coronation Hospital early in the year, yet the daily average pumber of patients has risen ffrom 196.78 to 204.7, while the pverago stay in the hospital per patient has dropped from 28.45 days to 24.9 days. • '< The percentage of ■ mortality has dropped from Bjf per cent, to 6| per cent. Nearly 500 more operations were performed during the year than in the previous year. There was an ususually large number of diphtheria cases (102), with only two deaths. The previous largest number of cases was 64. "Three thousand three hundred and eighty in-patients were treated during the year, as against 2714 in the previous year. "The available beds in the hospital were: —Male 110, female 88, children 40, making a total of 288, divided into 126 surgical and 112 medical."
