HORROR AT DINANT.
WAGING WAR ON WOMEN. REVOLTING DETAILS OF GERMAN BRUTALITY. "Times" and "Sydney Sun" Services. (Received April 27, 8 a.m.) LOHDON, April 26. The diai'y of a Belgian lady who-has since died in England states that the Germans, on entering Diuant, were mostly drunk. They set fire to houses and pillaged shamefully. When the bombardment commenced women and children fled terrified, the nuns holding up their hands to hearten them, hundreds, in a state of the most extreme terror and fatigue, were lying on mattresses, while babies in their cradles were left in the streets.
One barefooted woman who was expecting the birth of a child, and who. was. clad only in a chemise and petticoat was among those who were compelled to watch their unarmed husbands and sons shot.
1 Many women took refuge in the hill eaves, where several of them lost their reason as a result of their-infants dying. The Germansdiscovered them and compelled them to march in front of the army. •" ' ■ - •
When the ; French cannon ceased firing the women were lined up facing German riflemen. They appealed for but an officer replied: "Dinant fired on our soldiers. lam ordered to leave nothing in Dinant."
Heart-breaking farewells were taken, but an officer : rode up at the last moment and spared i the women. He marched them to the camp, where they saw immense braziers full of corpses; They were imprisoned in a church, and, in response to; the appeals of 'the priests, were more family treated.
