WOOLSTON BOROUGH.
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The Woolston Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr J. J. Graham) presiding. There were also present: Crs T. Newton,' .T. B. Richardson, L. Ilart, M. Dalziel, l Ai V. Mouiitford, J. Radcliffe, D. Mcßae, G. Lilly, and W. Fuller. . . On the motion of the Mayor it was decided: —"That .we, the Woolston Borough Council, desire to convey -most hearty congratulations to tlie conductor and members of the Woolston Brass Band on their success 1 in gaining premier honours in the brass band championship of New Zealand:''' 'lt was also decidetl that, if possible/the band be presented by tlie people with-some-thing tangible to mark their success. The .-Works Committee ,recommended that the council lay the crossings over the channels: at the. seats, at the; tramway stopping places. . : Tlie committee also recommended that notices be given to adjoining owners regarding gorse on the Canal Reserve, —The -report-., wag adopted. The financial statement showed receipts for. March totalling £l7lß 2/8; credit balance, general account, £63; credit balance, loan account, £42 6/-; debit balance, temporary loan, £938 19/6. Accounts amounting to £164 4/9 were passed for payment. It was decided, on the recommendation of the. By-laws Committee, that persons wishing to keep pigs must apply to the council for a permit to do so. • ■ . i ■ ■
The. Tramways Board wrote requesting that the council place in order a portion of' the- r-oad ~-near the Heathcote Bridge.—r-The matter was referred to the engineer. ...
The Kia- Ona Ladies' Hockey-Club was granted- the use of. a- playing ground Oft^he, last year.
