The Australian Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting was continued to-day in fine weather, but the course was heavy. There was a large attendance. Merrimax was well supported in the Hurdle Handicap, but was unplaced. Spurn, well ridden by McLachlan, oasily captured the All-aged Stakes. Mountain Knight was made favourite in' the Cumberland Stakes, but he was unable to last out the distance against Ulva's Isle. With a view to ensuring: the safety of the .soldiers in camp jit Trentharn an extract from the King's Regulations, regarding ammunition, ball and blank, is quoted in tho camp orders, says the "Post." The regulation stipulates , that before the men arc dismissed from any parade for which ball ammunition has been issued, an officer must ascertain that uoue remains in their rifles, bandoliers, or possession. After flrin<» with ball ammunition, a certificate wifl l>e rendered to the effect that all unexpended rounds of: ball ammunition J have been collected or otherwise accounted for. The company commander will inspect all ammunition issued for the use of his company, etc., and will be personally responsible for the correctness of the description and quantity of ammunition drawn, and for the caro and expenditure of sueh ammunition. He will also personally check any unexpended balance of ammunition when collected from the men, and will be responsible for its return to the magazine. Men not complying with the regulation are liable to be tried by court martial.
