Ilerdmah, Minister of Justice, made a statement to the Press in rcpfy to the strictures recentJy pass* ed upon the Public Service Commissioners by Mr P. The Minister describes the criticism ns so extravagant and inaeenrate that it is of value pnly as showing how little reliance can be placed on Mr McConnell's reflections. He cites as an example, the statement that an expert mental farm manager is not allowed to engage a temporary employee without first cdiisultihg the Commissioner, and quotes in reply regulation 150, which projvidesj that "Temporary workmen employees required in the following!deviz., on farms, shall be engaged or discharged by each manager <jr : iowerßoiKr.i'" :"j'■■■'.'
' The Minister replies to other phases of the criticism, and concludes by giving Mr McConnell every credit for his' Capable management of the farm, but says he is.evidently;a man with a grievance, arid;-such people^are better out; of-, the' Service! The circurris"tances of the exemplify the usefulness of the Public Service Commissioners.
