MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
TODAY'S CASES. Four persons were dealt with by Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., this morning at a sitting of the court lasting only ten minutes. DRUNKENNESS. John Howard admitted a second offence in Battersea, Street, Sydenham, and was fined the usual 10/-, • while a prohibition order was issued agaisnt him at his own request. DISORDERLY DBUNK. Jas. McVeigh was charged with having behaved in a disorderly manner while he was drunk in Manchester Street. The man was 61 years of age. He admitted the offence, and was fined 20/-, in default seven days' imprisonment. BEGGING. Geo. Tyson, 35 years of age, was charged that he was an idle and disorderly person, in that ho wandered abroad to beg or gather alms in Manchester Street. He pleaded guilty, and said that drink was the cauae of his offence.. He was remanded for a week. A PITIFUL CASE.
David Robertson, 86 years of age, appeared on remand. He had been charged that on. the 2Gth ult. he was an idle and disorderly person, having been found sleeping hi the lupins at New Brighton. A report was handed in from Dr Gow, to the effect that while the old man was in his dotage, he was hardly certifiable. The Old Men's Home at Ashburton would be a fit place for him. He was remanded till Monday to see if he could be got into the home. JUDGMENT SUMMONS ORDERS. Jas. Heaney was ordered to pay £6 8/- forthwith'to W. .T. Moir (Mr F. W. Johnston), in default seven days' imprisonment. Geo. Pilling was ordered to pay 2/6 a week off a debt of £4 15/-, owing to J. 0. Trengrove (Mr Cunningham), hi default four days' imprisonment. Patrick McKcrnan was also ordered to pay 2/6 a week off a debt of £7 10/6 owing to S. C. Thompson (Mr Williams) in default seven days' imprisonment.
