ENORMOUS LOSSES.
CARNAGE IN THE CARPATHIANS. AUSTRIANS LOSE 300,000 MEN. , ' (Received April 10, 8.55 a.m.) ROME, April 9. The "Messagero" says:—The Austrians have lost 300,000 men in the Carpathians, of whom one-third have been taken prisoners. "Whole divisions were armed with old pattern German rifles, and some of the troops have been using black powder. Apparently the factories have been unable to turn out smokeless powder.
