A GRAVE COMPLAINT.
BUTTER SUPPLIES FOR FORCES. Some rather sensational developments regarding the commissariat department in connection with tho New Zealanders' camp near Cairo are expected shortly. Many letters which have been received in New Zealand from members of tho force have referred to a shortage of butter and other edibles. A letter which has been received iu Christcliurch this week from a member of tho Canterbury detachment states tiiat butter had not been served out to some sections for weeks past. When some of tho men went into Cairo to buy butter with their own money they secured a pat which bore the brand of the contractors to the Government, and which was stamped "Not for export." it is also stated that the only portion of tho comforts sent by the people of New Zealand which the men of the Canterbury detachment received consisted of a small slice of cake and two ounces of tobacco each. Tho writer of tho letter adds that the men did not pine for the stuff, but they did object to the comforts benefiting people for whom they were not intended.
