INQUESTS AT ASHBURTON.
Three inquests were held at Ashburton yesterday before Mr V. G. Day, S.M., District Corner. The first concerned the death of John Sheehy, who was found dead in a whare at Tinwald on December 19, with his throat cut. After police and medical evidence had been heard, a verdict was returned that deceased died from self-inflicted injuries, while of unsound mind. The second inquest was that on Joseph Nicholson, who was found on the railway line at Chertsey with a fractured spine. A verdict that deceased died from injuries to his spiue, accidentally caused on the railway line, was returned.
The third inquest concerned the death of Joseph Clinton, who was knocked down by a horse at Lowecliffe on De : cember 17, and afterwards died in the hospital. The doctor's evidence showed that Clinton had not died from the effects of; the accident, but from apoplexy. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical evidence.
