THE FIELD KITCHEN MOVEMENT.

A prompt and liberal response has been made to the movement instituted only a week ago for the purchase of a travelling cooker, or field kitchen, for the troops in Egypt. Up to the time of the meeting held yesterday in connection with the matter, no less than £7OO was received. This, considering the very many demands made on the generosity of the public during the past few weeks, is very satisfactory indeed. The lists of donations show that the idea has made a special appeal to women—although this is not to say that the men folk of the community have been less generous, or less energetic in the matter of making collections. The amateur dramatic entertainment to be held next week should succeed in substantially augmenting the fund.
