TRAMWAYS BOARD.

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the Christchurch Tramway Board, held yesterday afternoon, was attended by Messrs J. A. Plesher (in the chair),'G. T. Booth, 11. Pearce, A. W. Beaven, C. M. Gray, D. Sykes, S. A. Staples, and the Hon. J. Barr. The Works and Traffic Committee reported that notwithstanding the slackening in general, traffic after the outbreak of war, the total increased receipts on the seaside lines for four weeks ended November 29, excluding Sundays and Show Day, when the 6d seaside return ticket was not issued, amounted to £6B. For this the new ticket is mainly responsible. Owing to the loading being distributed over several trips, extra cars were not required, as was the case when the ticket was in issue before. It is hoped that when the advantages of this ticket are more fully realised, a further increase in receipts will be shown,.,. The removal of centre poles continues at a satisfactory rate. Those in Ferry Eoad and Colombo Street South are at present in hand. They will be followed by the only two sections remaining, Papanui Road, from Leinster Eoad to the old terminus; and Barbadoes Street, from Bealey Avenue northwards. There were 24 minor accidents reported during November. Ten of these were caused by motor cars and other vehicles - coming into collision with tramears. The recklessness of some motorists at street intersections is such that a greater number of collisions might be expected. Six women came to grief through alighting from cars in motion, and three men.

The revenue account showed a surplus of £2775 for the four weeks ended November 29, as agains'; a surplus of £2684 for the corresponding period of last year. The four weeks ended November 1 last showed a deficiency of £682. Including Easter (calculated to be worth £IOOO net), the surplus to date this year was £2196, which, with £2175 rates from special rating areas, brought the total up to £4371. Accounts amounting to £792 4/6 were passed for payment. It was reported that as instructed by the board at its meeting on August 21 last, the details of the agreement with the Government respecting Lake G'olerjidge power supply have been further considered by the Works and Traffic Committee. The committee was now able to report that the Government had met it in regard to certain matters, and the terms of the agreement were now I practically settled. Tliey asked for authority to complete, which was granted. It was stated that the terms of the agreement could not yet be made public, but it was fairly advantageous to the board.
