OWNERS' AND BREEDERS' ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Owners and Breeders' Association, held last even ing, Mr J. C. Whiteman (president) in the chair. , ] The chairman referred to the system of J handicapping formulated by the association, which he hoped to sec generally" adopted by all New Zealand clubs. He mentioned that the New Brighton Trotting Club had adopted the system for the Mace Memorial Handicap on Anniversary Day, and it had proved its efficiency. Mr W. E. Simes mentioned that a conference was shortly to be held between representatives of the various clubs and the New Zealand Trotting Association. This would take place when further replies had been received from the trotting clubs regarding the proposed system of handicapping. The report arid balance-sheet showed a "credit balance of £6 19/5, while the association had donated £l7 17/- to the Patriotic Fund. It was suggested that a deputation from the association should wait on the Metropolitan Trotting Club, urging that body to lay down a training track inside the present race track at Addington. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr J. C. Whiteman; vice-pesidents, Messrs H. F. Nicoll, E. E. Lelievre, W. H. Denton, W. Trist, G. Isles, and L. B. Hubbard: committee, Mossrs R. McMillan, B. J. Munro, W. J. Alpe, T. G. Fox) N. L. Price, B. Edwards, A. Fleming, W. Kerr, H. A. Jarden, F. Hickenbottom, and C. James; treasurer, Mr G. King. An honorarium of £5 was voted the secretary, Mr C. W. Hervey, over and above his ordinary salary.
