SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
ADDINGTON. At the Addington School Committee meeting, when there wore present Mr W. G. Burns .(chairman), Mesdames Merry and Robins, and Messrs J. Down, W. Downing, R. Walls, and M. W. Woodfield, the Ladies' Swimming Club was granted the use of the schoolbath. The Education Board wrote stating that in j future all appointments of pupil teach- j ers would be made by the board on the same lines as probationers, and that no transfer would be. made after appointment without the committee being first consulted. The board stated also that arrangements had now been made for the introduction of the new system of physical education in the city and suburban schools, and classes of instruction for teachers had been arranged for the end of January. This would necessitate the closing of the school for an extra week, and the Board asked for the cooperation of the committee in the matter. It was agreed to close the school for six weeks. The headmaster's report showed the number on the roll to be 660 and the highest attendance 635. It was decided to abandon the school picnic and to appeal to the scholars to contribute to the Belgian Children's Relief Fund. It was reported that all arrangements had been completed for the breaking-up concert to be given by the scholars in the main school on December 23.
