LARGE CALIBRE SHEFFIELD-MADE PROJECTILES, FITTED WITH A NEWPATENT CAP. These formidable projectiles were made at Hadfield's, steel foundry, Sheffield. On the left is a 12in "Heclon" projectile, which weighs 8601b. Fired against a 12in Kruppcemented steel plate, at a range of 6i miles, it perforated the plate and was recovered unbroken over two miles beyond the target. The middle one is a 14in "Eron" shell, photographed after perforating a Bin Krupp cemented plate at the low velocity of 1120 f.c. On the right is a Hadfield 14in "Heclon" armour-piercing shot, photographed after perforating a 12in Krupp-cemsnted pla'e at a velocity of 1479 f.s.
