TURFJTOPICS, Work at Biccarton this morning was chiefly confined to the plough track, which had been watered overnight, and provided good going. The reverse work was the first to be accomplished, and as only one team for Auckland remains at headquarters, that was quiekly disposed of. The Auckland candidates, Sutala and Banksia, were the first to work, their task being a gallop over six furlongs, which was cast behind in lmin 17sec. The former, who is a greatly improved horse since he raced at the Cup Meeting, experienced little difficulty in account ing for his stable companion, and finished up his task in a creditable manner. - * Bimeter, with a • light-weight up, sprinted six furlongs in lmin 16 4-ssec. He galloped freely over the first part of the journey, but did not appear to finish too well. X Emperador and Camulus galloped seven furlongs together. The latter got iabout three lengths the worst of the start and never caught his companion, who ran the journey in lmin Slsec; a useful performance. Quarantine, assisted by Merry Trick jpver the last six furlougs, galloped a inile. He was not asked to do his best. ' Briar Patch experienced little diffiieulty in defeating Waitara over six furlongs run in lmin 18£ sec. The former has not been shaping too well in her work of late, being a trifle sore. She galloped with more freedom this morning. f. Peg and Honesty dashed over half a inile on the plough track in 50sec, finishing together. They both appear to pe going on the right way, and should be worth keeping in mind.

• Este, a full sister to Chudic, has the gift of galloping fast, and she made Bhort work of Glenowl over half a mile this morning. So far she has done little racing, but looks like one that »hould pay her way before long. f Charmilla and Skirl dashed over half a mile from a standing start in 50|sec on the plough track. Both were carrying fair weights, and their performance Jwas a smart one.

. Olga Carlovna, who was given her first .sprint in company since racing at Horo;rata, had Gnome as a companion. The pair dashed over five furlongs in lmin s>}sec, victory resting with the former by a couple of lengths. Leading Lady sprinted five furlongs in lmin 5-Asec. She looks well just now, ■and a win may come her way in the near future. Parable defeated Glencannich in a gallop over a mile this morning,, run in lmin The former appeared to .be running on well at the finish. She should keep the opposition busy in the hurdle events at Dunedin. Trilby can go very fast over a short cour.se, and experienced little difficulty in giving Donation a couple of lengths

beating over half a mile run on the plough track in 49£ sec this morning. She will be raced on the Coast at Christmas meetings and should not fail to pay her way. Twelfth Night registered an attractive performance by reeling off six furlongs in lmin 15§scc on the plough. He will probably race ia the north at Christmas, and should be worth bearing in mind.

The New 1 Brighton trainer, H. Ellis, paid a visit to headquarters this morning, bringing four members of his team in Jeanot, Optician, Grand Cup, and Lady Grafton; They weTe each allotted sprint tasks on the plough track, and are looking forward •in condition. > After undergoing an operation at Upper !Kutt on Saturday, a yearling by Bezonian —Lady Crcswick, owned by Mr Geange, bled to death. The only race meeting of any importance on to-morrow outside Canter-1 burr is that of the Woodville Jockey Club. ;

Mr E. O. Duncan left for the^.south to-day to officiate as stipendiary steward at the Lake County Meeting. The Methven Eacing Club has drawn 'up an attractive programme for its annual meeting, to be held on New Year's Day. Good stakes are provided, and the varied nature,of the bill of fare should ensure liberal support. Entries fall due on the 17th with Mr J. F. Stone, Methven, at 9 pjn. According to a Press Association message an error was made on Saturday in Pot Luck's weights for the TaratahiCarterton Meeting. In the Belvedere Handicap the weight should be Bst, not 7st, and in the Dash Handicap Bst 41b, not 7st 51b.

Fir%t Flight has been blistered, and hopes are entertained that he may be able to sport silk again at some of the autumn fixtures.

The Martian —Ingleneuk colt, Fire God, figures amongst the acceptors for the Great Northern Derby, but, judging by his form at Eakaia on Saturday, Derby- honours are never likely to come his way. Altogether eight Eiccarton trained horses, in Don Francisco, Court Martial, Snapdragon, Adjutant, Warstep, Snub, Kilmeny, and Bee, got away en route for Auckland by last night's ferry boat. It is quite probable that some of them may be held up a day or two in Wellington, as the train arrangements between there and Auckland do not make much provision for the transference of horses. \ Mr John Daly, the A.J.C. handicapper, while chatting about the worries of weight-adjusters, remarked that he has in his scrap book an account of an extraordinary incident chronicled in England. Sixteen horses were nominated in a certain race, and all declined the engagement! The remainder of the Biccarton contingent for the Auckland Racing Club 's Meeting are due to leave to-morrow. B. J. Mason's team will comprise Banksia, Bimeter, Sutala, and Camulus, while B. O 'Donnell 's will include Sauci, Wishful, and Bonny Big. Although the Canterbury stables will be weakened by the absence of First Flight, Battle Eve, and Thrax, their representatives should not come back empty handed. To-morrow being a general holiday, racing will start at New Brighton at ten minutes past noon, while on Saturday the first race is timed for 12.30 p.m.

Denver Huon has not done a great deal of fast work since racing at Addington, and ho bears a much more robust appearance. The Australian, bids fair to play a prominent part in the decision of the Pree-for-All at New Brighton on Saturday. Both Country Belle and Emmeline are reported to be in the very best of health, and their encounter with Denver Huon in the New Brighton Trotting Cup on Saturday will be one of the most attractive items of the fixture.
