COUNTY COUNCILS.

WAIREWA. At the last meeting of the Wairewa County Council, there were present: Messrs J. F. Buchanan (chairman), J. Thompson, W. F. Parkinson, J. Feather, J. C. C. Gebbie, jun., Y. Chapman, and J. O. Coop. With regard to an application from the foreman at Kinloch, asking that the whare at Kinloch should be shifted to a more central site, it was decided that the chairman* Messrs Feather and Chapman, and the county clerk should visit the place and report to next meeting of the council. A letter was received from the Belgian Relief Fund Committee asking that a shilling fund should be instituted for the purpose of buying Christmas gifts, and it was decided to forward the request to Mt W. Thompson; asking him to do his utmost • to collect for this fund. The Akaroa and Wainui.Road Board haying asked for ,a settlement of the loan for metalling Puaka, it was decided that the chairman, Messrs, Chapman, Coop, arid Thompson should wait on the board with a view to arranging a settlement. The Charitable Aid Board wrote stating that it had forwarded a half-share of the contribution towards the local doctors'"guarantee fund. The National Provident Association sent particulars of a scheme whereby employ might receive superanxmatioii.—Both matters Were referred to the Finance Committee. A motion, proposed by Mr Coop ( arid seconded by Mr Thompson, asking that the Minister, of Public Works should grant authority to proceed with the Moriee Settlement bridge and to conclude the account for metalling Kinloch Road, was carried. . ; Reports having been received that some logging had been carried over the Kinloch and; Okute. roads, it "was resolved to write stating that the council would take proceedings if such act was repeated. . Mr Parkinson and. the clerk were authorised ,to report on a proposal to build a bridge on Kaituna Road, and the chairman . was authorised to sign the plan of .a road deviation in Mc..Qu,een's -Valley, . , The clerk ,tendered his resignation of the positions of clerk and engineer to the councilafter a service of. 35 years.
