A meeting of the General Committee, of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held this afternoon. .The president, Mr W. F. Parkinson, was in the chair. THE LATE MR MURPHY. . Before proceeding to the business of the meeting, the president said that it was with profound reg-ret that he had to refer to the death of their old friend 'Mr M. Murphy, who had been intimately connected with the association for the last 36 .years. The president then moved:—"That this committee, on behalf of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, wishes to convey to the 'niece and family of the late Mr Murphy its deepest sympathy and condolence in

their bereavement, and also to place on record the profound loss sustained by this association, with which he was so long and intimately connected." After several other members had paid a tribute to the deceased, the motion was passed in silence. THE METROPOLITAN SHOW. An interim balance-sheet for the MetroShop- iset out receipts amounting to £2855 fi/-,; as compared with £BOOB i 8/- year's show, and expenditure of £21(55 10/7,' compared with £2->77 17/5 last year. There was thus,a credit balance of £699 14/5, while- that for last year 's show! was '£63o 10/7. The principal items of receipts this year, with the figures for last year shown in parenthesis, were: —Entry fees, £BB6 5/;} (£946 17/-) ; takings at gates, £162:? 8/9 (£1699 4/6) • special prizes, £226 12/- (£239 7/-). The chief items of expenditure were:—Money prizes, £1221 (£1278 12/6) j prize medals, £B7 14/- (£IOB «i/5); general expenses, £.140 2/11 (£IBS CONGESTED TRAFFIC. Twelve new members were elected.
