LYTTELTON LICENSING COMMITTEE.
QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the Lyttelton Licensing Committee was held today, and was attended by Messrs H. W. Bishop, S.M. (chairman), J. Garrard, 0. Bradley, S. W. Mitchell, and Dr J. Guthrie. The following transfers of licenses were granted:-—Sumner Hotel, Sumner, Henry F. Haddrell to William Henry Bates; Albion Hotel, Lyttelton, George dive Shield to Albert Edward Bragg; Marine Hotel, Sumner, Sidney Chapman to Joseph Albert Home. In the case of the British Hotel, Lyttelton, Mr Bishop stated that in a supplementary report by the police there was a complaint about Sunday trading. There was an application for transfer from J. Jackson to Thomas Geary, but no transfer had been granted. On Thursday last Jackson vacated the hotel, leaving Geary in charge, and since then the alleged Sunday trading had taken place. In. the face of there being no transfer, he thought the position rather an extraordinary one. Mr Nicliol, who appeared for the owners, gave an assurance that they would undertake to look after their interests pending developments.
