MERINO WOOL TOR U.S.A. By Cable. — Press Association.—Copyright. (Received December 5, 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, December 4. Tho Government will permit the exportation of merino wools to the the United States, on satisfactory guarantees being given that it will not ■; be reexported to enemy countries.
Frozen meat market; Messrs Weddel and Co; report as follows:-^ During the past week trade at Smithfield has" been very quiet for all descriptions of frozen meat. The supply of Dutch mutton and Irish beef continue to come in freely, and this is to some extent affecting the demand for the frozen article. -Mutton—New Zqaland mutton stocks are quite moderate, and up to 5$ per lb is obtainable for prime Canterbury u/641b; the o/641b are selling at,|d per lb less. Bast North Island mutton is quoted at s|d per lb. Some rather stale ewes are being sold at 5d to s|d per lb; fresh carcases, however, cannot be obtained at under 5-} d per lb. Australian mutton is quoted at s|d to 5f d per lb, and ewes at 5Jd per lb. River Plate sheep sell steadily at s§d to s|d per lb. Lamb—With regard to lamb,*a con-' siderable quantity of New "Zealand carcases are in store. Canterbury brands U/361b are selling at 6f, and 36/421b at 6*d to 6gd per lb. The o/421b are a slowsale at 6-Id to ~6§d per lb. Prime North Island lambs, realise about ; per lb Jess. -Some new season's 1 Australian- lambs have just arrived, and the .quality of same has proved to ' be quite satisfactory/Good pric%s were realised, GM.-to■■■6|d per lb being -obtained at Smithfield. River Plate J&mbsare quoted at sgd to per lb. demand for beef has been quiet, especially for hindquarters,: which "do not realise' more than 6-Jd' per lb.: Crops and forequarters/however, are firmat s§d to : s|d per lb. ■.■■-'■ Chilled beef has been pushed for sale, with the result that prices have gone down to well below the level of those : ruling for the frozen article.
