Mr G. Bushj of Nelson, is a guest' at Coker 's Hotel.
Messrs C. F. Chandler, of Auckland, and D. L. Patterson, of Oamaru, arrived in Christchurch this morning. They are staying at the United Service Hotel. A telegram from Hokitika announces the death of Mr William Mitchell, a well-known pioneer of Stratford, aged 71. Ho leaves a grown-up fajnily of .10. Mr G. W. Russell went south by the first express this morning. He will address meetings at Palmerston and Waikouaiti to-day and at Oamaru on Monday. Visitorsu to Christchurch staying at Warner's Hotel include Messrs E. A. Dowler (London), H. Price (Dunedin), A. M.Bisley (Nelson), arid R. J. Bernley /Wellington). The students attending the Saturday afternoon class for wool-classing at the Technical College presented the instructor, Mr ,T. B. Marquet, with a handsome wallet.'? Mr.B. R. McLaren made the presentation. The Hon. James Allen ] Minister of Finance and Defence, arrived from Wellington by the Monowai this morning, and proceeded south by the second express. He intends to remain in his own electorate (Bruce) until the elections. Advice received by yesterday's English mail announced that Canon and Mrs Burton had booked to return to New ' Zealand 5 by the Morea, which reached Fremantle early this week. They hope to arrive at St. Michael's in time for the "Christmas Festival.
