VICTORIAN TARIFF.
DUTY ON N.Z. TIMBER. LIQUOR AND TOBACCO TO PAY MORE. By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. MELBOURNE, December 4. The new tariff came into operation to-day. . The duty on New Zealand, white pine and rimu, undressed, is fixed at one shilling per'hundred super feet. The excise duty on beer has been increased from -threepence to sixpence a gallon, while that on bottled beer lias been increased from 1/6 to 2/-, with an additional sixpence against the foreigner and sixpence on beer in bulk. On British beer ..the increase amounts to eightpence per gallon. The duties on spirits have been increased to 8/per gallon, sparkling wine 12/- to 20/-, manufactured tobacco 3/6 to 4/- per pound, and a duty also has been placed on leaf tobacco.
