The Italian ship Combermere, which had been anchored in the stream for some little . time waiting for men to complete her 'crew, sailed yesterday morning for Puget Sound, •where she will load timber. "Fairplay/' a London shipping journal, understands that the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company has just contracted with Messrs Workman, Clark, and Co., Belfast, and Messrs Alex. Stephen and Sons, Linthouse, for the construction of two large high-class passenger »nd cargo steamers for the Australasian trade. Continuing her voyage from New York to New Zealand ports, the steamer. Star, of New Zealand arrived at Wellington yesterday. After unloading there she will come to Nelson, Lyttelton, and Dunedin, reaching here on Wednesday to put out about 000 tons of cargo. The Union Company's Mokoia, which arrived at Lyttelton from ■ Auckland via Gisborne, Napier, and Auckland, will withdraw on arrival at Dunedin tomorrow, and her running Sv\ 11 be taken up t by the Paloona, leaving Dunedin for Lyttelton and North Island ports on Tuesday next. The Mokoia's three Scotch marine type boilers are to be
supplemented by the installation of a Babcock and Wilson water-tube boiler. A wireless message has been received from Waitangi, stating that the Himitangi arrived there from Wellington on Thursday. She left Wellington on Monday, and will return to Lyttelton on the return trip. The steamer Trafalgar, which is to load in, New Zealand for Home early next year on behalf of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, is to leave New York shortly under the auspices of the A. and A. Line. She is commanded by Captain Peter, a son of one of Sydney's best-known waterfront identities. Mr Cr. H. Amies, late purser of the Kowhai,' who has been relieving in the Wellington office of the .Union Company, went to Dunedi.n by the Mokoia to-day for orders.
