SPRINGFIELD. A meeting of parishioners was held in the Council Rooms on Thursday evening to make arrangements for a garden fete in aid of St. Peter's Church. The Rev. 'Mr Allen was in the chair. A Btrong committee was formed to canvass for produce, etc., for the various stalls, and to prepare a programme of sports, competitions, and side shows. It was decided to hold the fete on New Year's Day.
The Springfield Social Club held their wind-up social in the school last evening, and despite the rough weather, there was a good attendance of visitors'. The euchre prizes were won by Miss Evan and Mr Gold (first), Miss McDowell and Mr Chesterfield (second), and the boobies by Mrs Innes and Mr S. Rob'ertshaw. During the evening Mr Gillanders presented the musicians with the following:—Miss Mcllraith, lady's dressing-case; Mr Miller Hall, tobacco pouch; and Mr Quaife, military brushes and tobacco pouch. Mr Gillanders referred to the great help the musicians were to the club and to the energetic way in which they had performed their duties. Mr Colman (Annat) and Mr F. A. Atkinson (Kowai Bnsh) thanked the Springfield people for the way they had entertained the members of their clubs when visiting their meetings.
