DEFENCE CASES.
MANY FINES. Some two dozen territorial drill defaulters paraded before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, ,S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon. Several of them who supplied ingenious excuses were convicted and. . discharged without a fine, while in a few instances the charges were withdrawn by the authorities. One young fellow explained that he couldn't attend drill on the night in question because he '' had something important on.'' In fact, he candidly admitted that he"made arrangements to be married that night." He was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Fines Avere imposed as follow, in each case with costs:—Stanley Balfour, £1; Chas. .Ernest Banfield, £3; Wilfred Vivian Boon, £1; Geo. Boon, £2; Chas. Cran field Emmett Butcher, £2; Benjamin Erogatt, 10/-; AMncent Joseph Fuss, £1; Robert Jack, £1; 11. AVillis, £2, and Jas. Lionel Watt, £2.
