- THE WEEK'S PLAY.
The following is the draw for the third Iround of »the Christehureh Central Pennant: competitions: — -
Canterbury v. Edgeware —3 red and 2 foiue on Edgeware; 2 white and 3 blue on (Canterbury. \
- United v. Opawa —3 red and 1 blue on United; 2 white and 2 blue on Opawa. Sydenham v. Linwood —3, red and 1 fbJtae on Sydenham; 2 white and 2 blue on itiHiwood. •• ■•/ \ ...'■■•■: =
Christchurch v. Rangiora—3 red on Christchurch; 2 white on Rangiora. Papanui v. Kaiapoi—3 red on Kaiapoi. St. Albans a bye. EDOEWARE V. OPAWA.
The game between Edgeware and Opa*/a last Saturday was very evenly contestsad. On the whole game the Edgeware Club won five rink games, with an aggregate of 162 points, and Opawa won three games, *ith an aggregate of 135. This allowed a inargin of 27 points, which is not out of the way for an eight-rink game. Edgeware scored wins in ail the"pennant competitions, and was ahead in both < aggregate points and the number of rink games -won. The Only serious defeat sustained ■was that of Wright's (Opawa-)- rink by Shearman's, the Edgeware score of 28 to Itl aceountiiig fdiv; more ■* than half -of <)pawa's deficiency. Shearman had a .yery solid rink with hun, and hi* own npltty as skip was than, it haisj eyer seen .-Wastes rmk "very good performance in the red pennant "hy. defeating' W. Spiller's rink by 24 to 54. ,--,, ~..,;■,.- ■:-. ; ■■::«, :.-.;
CANTERBURY V. SYDENHAM. In the 12-rink match, Sydenham scored * blue pennant win froui Canterbury by «ight rink- games to four. The aggregate «core for the whole game was: Sydenham $52, Canterbury' 208. But owing to the Centre's system of scoring, the club with lihe more meritorious performance loses two of the, pennant competitions. Canterbury put in strong teams in the red and white, and just got home with three wins to two, ■9T an aggregate score of 104 to 92. It TTOS surprising to see such an experienced akip as N. Young losing to Finnegan by SSi to 11, and the redoubtable Tom McGalJan also went down in the red. Iu the tdqe. pennant Sydenham"had a ridiculously easy win, Canterbury getting home* in «nly one rink 'cent of the seven. Some of 1 the games were close, but two of the Canterbury rinks went down very heavily. , KAIAPOI V. ST. ALBANS. ,The city «lnb had no difficulty in defeating Kaiapoi, Thompson's and Henkrj*]r rinks scoring good majorities. Parnlam, the'Kaiapoi crack, put up an even game,with Le Cren, and a tie resulted. However, Si Albans got its' second .red pennant win. CHRISTCHURQH V. PAPANUI. Papanui hardly got a'look in, the '.Chrlstehim* rink's-carrying ftoo' many jams altogether. The scoring was not big, .Jrat the i Christfihurch men were winners all the way/ UNITED V. LINWOOD. ~ The defeat of United by Linwood, was a most peculiar thing, and in the red and -white pennant; illustrated the iniquity of the new system of scoring. In the red pennant Linwood won two rink gar: « j s, and lost one. The two games won were «lose, but in the third John Brackcnridge got home on Howarth's (Linwood) rink toy 30 to 12. The result was that on the i United scored 63 to 51 in; the ':-] red pennant. In the white pennant one i game was drawn, and Linwood won the 1 atber?; On the< aggregate United were; still ; ahead, by 99 to 94, but Linwood won on ; the-rinks by 3£ games to Is. Honours >-were evenly divided in-the blue pennant, ••.'; Xiitwood winning four and United three «nt of the seven rinks. Some of the games were runaways, but big wins went /to each side. ■ ■ , ■ <
