SELWYN.

MR GEO. SHEAT

At his Mt. Somers meeting Mr Geo. Sheat, Government candidate for Sel-

wyn, encountered a hostile section who had evidently attended to obtain a night's entertainment. The candidate, however, held his own well, and gradually wore - down his interrupters. He advised the Reform supporters not to croak about the condition of the contest in the electorate, but to do their best. They could not tell, he said, till the numbers went up. At the conclusion of the address a vote of thanks was carried unanimously.
