Mr T. 6. Brown, of Auckland, is a guest at Coker's Hotel. , • Mr William Scott (Dunedin), is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Professor Park, of the Otago University, arrived from the North yesterday. Mr Julius Knight and .his company left by the Westralia for Wellington yesterday morning. Mr Colin E. Armit arrived from Wellington yesterday mOrning. He is staying at the United Service Hotel. Visitors to Christchurcli staying at Warner's Hotel include Messrs C. A. Dowler (London) and T. C. Robinson (Spotswood). Mr and Mrs P. Snowden are to be entertained to-morrow afternoon at Broadways by members of the Christchurch Journalists' Union. Messrs E. D. Barber, of Wellington, and Mr F. Marks ('' Hansard*' supervisor) arrived in Christchurch yesterday, en route to the Southern Lakes." Mr B. M. Wilson, .Director of the Tourist Department, left for Wellington on Saturday night, after making I the overland trip from Mount Cook to I Queenstown. A Pre3S Association message from Sydney states that Dr John Mitchell Meliaffy, formerly of Invercargill, has joined the Expeditionary Force, with the rank of surgeon-captain. A Sydney message announces that I Mr J. Dewar, a New Zealander, assistant superintendent in the Survey Department of the Malay States, has arrived there, en route to New Zealand. At a meeting of the General Committee of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association, held on Saturday, the president (Mr J. Cairns) extended a heartv welcome home to Mr John Shearer,' who recently returned from a trip to the Old Country. Miss Maud Stringer, who has relinquished her duties as organist of the Cambridge Terrace Methodist Church after eight years' service, was presented with a purse o/ sovereigns at a reception given her at the church last Friday evening. Many tributes to the services Miss Stringer* had rendered to the church were made by the Mayor, Mr H. Holland, the choirmaster, Mr C. H. Earwaker, and the Rev. C. E. Ward, amongst others. The presentation was made by Mr E. W. Hall, and Mr T. Stringer responded on behalf of his daughter. The remainder of the evening was pleasantly spent in playing various games and in listening to musical items.
