TO LAKE COLERIDGE.

AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION'S RUN. A SUCCESSFUL EVENT. What is regarded as the most successful run yet held by the Canterbury Automobile Association. took place yesterday, when some 30-odd cars made a trip from town to Lake Coleridge and the power station at Kisselton. The cars, with Mr F. W. Johnston, president of the association, in tlie lead, set out from the Square shortly after 9 o 'clock, and proceeded via Darfield and Glentunnel to the Lake. A misty rain, experienced a few. mtlies pasfc Yaldhurst, and which became thicker atf the party proceeded, caused one or two to; turn for home, but as the lake was neared the rain stopped, and save for a brisk and chilly wind, conditions at Kisselton were ideal. The visitors inspected.,the intake works in the lake, the surge-chamber from which/ the pipes to the power-house take their supplies, and the power-house machinery. In the basenient of the power-house, luncheon was partaken of, and the visitors afterwards distributed themselves aboiit the works to examine them at their leisure. The roar of water through the pipes that feed the turbines gave some idea of the enormous pressure, and the visitors peered curiously through the manholes to see the water rushing to the outlet channels. Tlie working of one of the Pelton wheels and one of the sets of turbines and alternators created special interest, and the power-house staff was kept fairly busy answering questions; Shortly after 4 p.m. the cars commenced to leave for town, the majority arriving between 7 and 8 o'clock. Soirto were unfortunate in the matter of tyre troubles, birt all were agreed in voting the trip particularly pleasurable and instructive. .

The success of the trip was due to the excellent preparatory work performed byMr P. R. Climie (chairman) and the members of the Social Committee. The method usually adopted for these runs is to notify members by circular, but on this occasion the Social Committee undertook a personal canvass, with the result that the trip proved the best that has yet been undertaken by the association. Among those who made the trip were: Mr F. "VV. Johnston (president of the association), Dr Simpson, Messrs P. P. Climie, P. L. Hallenstein, E. Allan, Parry (Government ! electrical engineer), L. Birks (engineer-in-charge of Lake Coleridge), G. CouttsMoon (tourist agent), Neville (assistant Town Clerk), A. Morton, Mark Steeds, H. Piper, D. Crozier, Broadway, L. N. Montgomery, H. J. Ranger, Manning, J. F. Best, Curtis, Gray, E. H. Jones, Mervyn Stevenson, W. E. Mills, H. R. Sellars, E. F. Dowbrain, A. A. McKellar, G. S. McKellar, W. Ingle, C. C. Derrett, B. M. Price, W. Izard, R. Kennett, H. E. Kennett, C. D. Morris, and Barnett. The party also included a large number of ladies.

The Social Committee particularly wishes to thank Messrs Birks, Parry, Blackwood (manager of the works), and the assistants at the power-house for the courtesy which they accorded the visitors.
