RUGBY FOOTBALL.

THE CANTERBURY UNION.

A meeting of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union was held last evening. Present: —Messrs F. T. Evans (in the chair), C. Buchanan, W. J. Morgan, E. E. Crawshaw, L. Corbett, F. D. Kesteven, A. E. Byrne,. A. McPhail, S. F. Wilson, C. Evans, and C. W. Hervey (secretary). The Board of Control of Lancaster Park notified that, in response to representations made to it, regarding the restrictions placed on annual ticketholders, it had decided to give the old system a further trial for. twelve months and allow annual tickets to cover admission to all parts of the ground for that period.- The board, however, had decided to adhere to its regulation regarding the issue of ladies' passes for players* The New Zealand Rugby Union Council, which had voted 50 guineas towards the Empire Defence Fund, forwarded a circular letter suggesting that affiliated unions should also make a grant to that fund. On the motion of S£r F. D. Kesteven it was unanimously agreed that the sum of twenty-five guineas be donated towards the fund. The Christchurch Football Club wrote stating that it protested against being charged with the cost of an extra ground for a fourth grade team, which had been withdrawn before the competitions commenced. It was decided to forego the charge. With regard to a letter from a country player named Lister, asking for reinstatement, it was agreed that the New Zealand Rugby Union be strongly recommended to reinstate the player. On the motion of Mr E. E. Crawshaw, it was resolved that the sum of three guineas be donated to the St. John Ambulance Association in appreciation of their services at Lancaster Park, and also the sum of two guines . to the groundman for a similar reason.
