WOOL SALES IN AUSTRALIA.

Crossbreds were easier and faulty wools were neglected, while burry crossbreds showed a heavy fall on the opening rates. Greasy sold to 13fd. MELBOURNE, November 18. At the wool sales there was keen competition and good prices, excepting for faulty and inferior wools, which were unchanged.

The Lord Mayor has officially opened the Council's cold storage works, which •are considered the best installation in the Southern Hemisphere. The works cost £BB,OOO.

WOOL SALES. PRICES AT WELLINGTON. Press Association. WELLINGTON November 18. The first wool sale of the season opened to-day. Bidding was spirited, and there was keen competition for all sound and well-grown wools. Crossbreds sold particularly well, realising over 'l3d. Coarser wools commanded good prices and sold well up to and above values. Pieces and bellies were in extremely good demand, mainly on the part of fellmongers, whilst crutchings were taken for Japan. Prices on the whole for good, sound w.ools were over one penny above last year's rates. During the sale a nugget given by a Reefton miner realised £243 by auction, and was handed* back to the Belgian Distress Fund for re-sale.
